Giuseppe Verdi’s Simon Boccanegra

Verdi’s searing political drama is a classic love triangle set against a backdrop of the intense power struggle among scheming nobles and commoners in 14th century Genoa. The great elder statesman Simon Boccanegra is one the towering figures of 19th century opera, and the touching relationship that is rekindled between him and his long-lost daughter Amelia inspired some of Verdi’s most fervent and dramatic music.
