Winston has had enough. He has had enough of the telescreens, the thought police and the doublespeak. He has had enough of Big Brother...
We enter the dark and oppressive world of Oceana, where our every movement and emotion is captured, recorded and tracked as Winston spins between the prospect of love, and the threat of torture.
In an age of CCTV cameras, ‘Total’ policing, GPS tracking, rioting in Tottenham and revolution in Egypt, this deeply relevant production pins the audience under the glare of cameras, disorientates, excites and terrifies, as the threat of being vapourised looms.

Sky Masterson (the highest-stakes player there is) has just flown in from Nevada and is looking for some unusual gambling action. Sarah Brown’s Save-a-soul mission is in danger of being closed down if she can’t rustle up some repentant sinners to save, and Nathan’s 14-year fiancée Adelaide is sickening under a strange ‘psychological’ disorder, and will stop at nothing to finally become ‘Mrs Detroit’. The only way these four characters will be able to keep the love of their lives is by each taking one massive gamble against all odds…

UCLU Music Society present University College Opera's production of Acante et Cephise
by Jean-Philippe Rameau.
In the first British staging of this spectacular French baroque pastorale héroïque, UCOpera rediscovers the story of the lovers, Acante and Céphise. Tormented and separated by the jealous genie, Oroès, their only hope lies with the good fairy Zirphile. Will she be able to save them or will they die at the hands of Oroès and his minions?
Originally written to celebrate the arrival of a new heir to the Bourbon dynasty, in this newly-conceived staging the piece becomes an entertaining journey through the trials and triumphs of that most universal of stories – the creation of a new life.
With a magnificent score by Jean-Philippe Rameau, one of France’s most famous and original composers, and fabulous dancing throughout, this is a unique chance to see this masterpiece.
Sung in French with English surtitles.
