The Gut Girls
UCLU Drama Society present an amateur production of The Gut Girls by Sarah Daniels
In association with UCLU Stage Crew Society
London, one hundred years ago: a city divided by extremes of poverty and wealth. The Gut Girls rule Deptford’s dockyard slaughterhouses - elbow-deep in blood and guts all day, they ignore society’s rigid rules, drinking, swearing and dancing the nights away in the East End’s notorious music halls. The Duchess of Albany battles without success to civilise the girls through sobriety and Bible readings, but when the slaughterhouse is suddenly closed down, the girls are faced with terrible choices and must compromise everything they value in order to survive.
A black comedy telling the real-life story of the pre-war East End, Sarah Daniels’ ‘The Gut Girls’ rediscovers a London of slums, mansions and music hall glamour. This vivid and immersive production by UCLU Drama Society runs for three nights only from 21st to 23rd February 2013, so don’t miss out!
