UCL Drama Society and UCL Stage Crew present the first drama production in the newly refurbished Bloomsbury Theatre: a modern adaptation of George Bernard Shaw'sSaint Joan. Saint Joan follows the victory and eventual downfall of Joan of Arc, the famous religious martyr who died at the hands of an oppressive government and society. Visited by angels and saints and in constant conversation with God, Joan becomes a revolutionary and breaker of tradition. Saint Joan will be reinterpreted to demonstrate how Joan’s struggle against authority transcends time, place and religion. Centering around gender, civil war and nationalism, and inspired by struggles past and present, the play will generate a place and time that both could be anywhere but is also recognizable and rooted in the contemporary world.
